Facebook Ads for Personal Injury Lawyers: What Works in 2026

Most PI firms waste money on Facebook ads because they treat the platform like Google. Here is how to build campaigns that actually generate signed cases.

Why Facebook Is Different From Google (and Why That Matters)

Google Ads catches people who are actively searching for a lawyer. Facebook Ads reaches people who are not looking for you yet. This fundamental difference is why most personal injury firms fail on Facebook. They run the same direct-response ads that work on Google and wonder why nobody clicks.

Facebook is an interruption-based platform. Your ad appears while someone is scrolling through photos of their grandkids, watching recipe videos, or arguing about sports. You are not answering a question they asked. You are introducing a need they may not have acknowledged yet.

This does not mean Facebook cannot generate cases. It absolutely can. Personal injury is one of the strongest practice areas for Facebook advertising because nearly everyone knows someone who has been injured, and the financial stakes are high enough to justify the cost per acquisition. But the strategy, creative, and funnel must be designed for how Facebook actually works.

Why Facebook Works for Personal Injury

Personal injury has several characteristics that make it well-suited to Facebook advertising. The potential case values are high, which means you can afford a higher cost per lead while still maintaining profitability. The audience is broad because accidents can happen to anyone. And the emotional nature of injury cases lends itself to compelling storytelling that performs well in a social media environment.

Facebook also offers something Google cannot: the ability to reach people before they start searching. Someone who was injured in a car accident last week may not have searched for a lawyer yet. They may not realize they have a case, or they may be focused on medical treatment and not thinking about legal representation. A well-targeted Facebook ad can reach that person at a moment when they are receptive to learning about their options.

The platform’s targeting capabilities let you reach people based on demographics, behaviors, interests, and life events. Combined with retargeting, this creates opportunities to build awareness, nurture interest, and drive action across a multi-touch funnel.

Targeting That Reaches the Right People

Effective Facebook targeting for personal injury starts with geography. Set your campaigns to target the specific metro areas, counties, or zip codes where your firm operates. There is no reason to show ads to people outside your service area, and tight geographic targeting keeps your budget focused on potential clients you can actually serve.

Behavioral and interest-based targeting adds another layer. While Facebook does not let you target “people who just had a car accident,” you can target based on related signals. People who have recently engaged with content about car insurance, medical treatment, physical therapy, or legal rights may be more likely to need a personal injury attorney. Test different interest combinations to find the audiences that convert best for your practice.

Lookalike audiences are one of Facebook’s most powerful targeting features. Upload a list of your past clients or leads and Facebook will find users who share similar characteristics. A 1 percent lookalike audience based on your signed cases represents the people on Facebook who most closely resemble your actual clients. These audiences consistently outperform interest-based targeting for lead quality.

Demographic targeting can also improve performance. Personal injury cases skew toward certain age groups and demographics depending on the type of case. Auto accident cases may perform well with drivers aged 25 to 54. Workplace injury campaigns might target people employed in specific industries. Test demographic filters to find the segments that produce the best results.

Creative That Actually Converts

Your ad creative determines whether someone stops scrolling or keeps moving. On Facebook, creative is arguably more important than targeting because even the best audience will ignore a boring ad.

Video testimonials are the highest-performing creative format for personal injury law firms. A 30 to 60-second video of a real client describing their experience, how your firm helped them, and the outcome of their case creates an emotional connection that static images cannot match. Keep videos authentic rather than overproduced. A genuine testimonial filmed on a smartphone often outperforms a polished commercial because it feels real.

Attorney-to-camera videos are the second most effective format. Record yourself speaking directly to the camera about a common scenario your potential clients face. “If you were hurt in a car accident that was not your fault, here are three things you need to know right now.” This format establishes your expertise and personality simultaneously. People want to see the person they might hire, and video lets them evaluate your trustworthiness before ever picking up the phone.

Carousel ads work well for showcasing multiple case results, explaining a process step by step, or addressing common questions. Each card in the carousel can highlight a different aspect of your practice, and the swipeable format encourages engagement. Use the first card to hook attention and the last card for a clear call to action.

Static image ads still have their place, particularly for retargeting. Use high-quality images that feature your attorneys, your office, or visual metaphors related to your practice areas. Avoid stock photos of gavels and scales of justice. They look generic and signal to potential clients that your firm is not willing to invest in authentic marketing materials.

All creative should follow a simple framework: hook, value, proof, action. Open with something that stops the scroll. Deliver value through education or empathy. Provide proof through results, testimonials, or credentials. Close with a clear call to action.

Lead Forms vs. Landing Pages

Facebook offers two primary conversion paths: native lead forms that keep users on the platform and landing pages on your website. Each approach has advantages, and the right choice depends on your goals and resources.

Native lead forms are pre-filled with the user’s Facebook information, which reduces friction and typically produces a higher volume of leads. The downside is lead quality. Because it is so easy to submit a native form, you receive more leads from people who were casually curious rather than genuinely interested. Expect lower contact rates and lower conversion-to-case rates with native forms.

Landing pages require more effort from the user, which means fewer leads but higher intent. Our guide on conversion rate optimization covers how to build pages that maximize those conversions. When someone clicks an ad, leaves Facebook, loads your landing page, and fills out a form, they have demonstrated significantly more interest than someone who tapped a pre-filled form without leaving their news feed.

Many firms find the best approach is to use native lead forms for broad awareness campaigns and landing pages for retargeting campaigns. The first touch captures interest easily, and the retargeting touch drives the higher-intent conversion.

If you use native lead forms, add qualifying questions to filter out low-quality leads. Ask about the type of injury, when the accident occurred, and whether the person has already hired an attorney. These questions reduce form completions but dramatically improve lead quality.

The Power of Retargeting

Retargeting is where Facebook advertising becomes most profitable for personal injury firms. Someone who visited your website, watched your video, or engaged with a previous ad has already shown interest in your services. Retargeting puts your firm back in front of these warm prospects at a fraction of the cost of reaching cold audiences.

Build retargeting audiences based on website visitors, video viewers, and lead form openers who did not submit. Create different retargeting messages for each audience. Website visitors might see a testimonial video. Video viewers who watched at least 50 percent of your content might see a case results ad. Lead form abandoners might see an ad emphasizing your free consultation offer.

Set appropriate retargeting windows based on the decision timeline for personal injury cases. Someone who visited your site yesterday is a much hotter prospect than someone who visited 60 days ago. Allocate more budget to short-window retargeting audiences and reduce frequency for longer windows.

Budgeting for Results

The minimum viable budget for Facebook advertising in personal injury depends on your market, but most firms need at least $2,000 to $5,000 per month to generate enough data for meaningful optimization. Spending less than that makes it difficult to exit the learning phase and find the audiences and creative that work best.

Allocate roughly 70 percent of your budget to prospecting campaigns that reach new audiences and 30 percent to retargeting campaigns that convert warm leads. As you identify winning audiences and creative, shift more budget toward what is working and cut what is not.

Do not judge Facebook performance on the same timeline as Google Ads. Google delivers immediate intent-based leads. Facebook requires a longer evaluation period because the platform needs time to optimize delivery and because the funnel involves multiple touchpoints. Give new campaigns at least 30 days before making major decisions about performance.

Measuring Cost Per Signed Case

Cost per lead is a useful metric but it does not tell you whether Facebook is actually profitable. The metric that matters is cost per signed case. Track every lead from Facebook through your intake process and note which ones convert to consultations, which consultations convert to signed cases, and the case value of those signed cases.

This requires proper tracking infrastructure. Install the Facebook pixel on your website and configure it to fire on form submissions, phone calls, and chat initiations. Use UTM parameters to track Facebook traffic in Google Analytics. Connect your CRM or case management system to your marketing data so you can follow leads from first click to signed retainer.

Calculate your cost per signed case monthly and compare it against your average case value. If your average personal injury case is worth $15,000 in fees and your cost per signed case from Facebook is $3,000, you are generating a 5x return on ad spend. That is a campaign worth scaling.

Many firms discover that Facebook delivers a lower cost per signed case than Google Ads for certain case types, especially when combined with Local Service Ads as a third paid channel, particularly in competitive markets where Google click costs are extremely high. The key is measuring the right outcome and giving the platform enough time and budget to optimize effectively.
